“India should now await our response,” the Pakistani military spokesman warned.
A short time later, Pakistani state television announced that the Pakistani army had launched retaliation against “Indian aggression.” Islamabad reported that the army had launched Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos (Solid Wall of Steel). The announcement came shortly after India had attacked several of Pakistan’s military air bases.
Ten explosions were heard near Srinagar International Airport in Indian-administered Kashmir, officials said.

Earlier, a Pakistani military spokesman had told state television that India had fired six ballistic missiles that fell on Indian territory.

“I want to give you shocking news as India has fired six ballistic missiles from Adhampur. “One of the ballistic missiles landed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the remaining five missiles hit Amritsar in the Indian state of Punjab,” he said in a video message broadcast around 2 a.m. Saturday (local time, midnight in Greece).

“This is a shocking development and a provocation of the highest order, as India has now started firing ballistic missiles against its population,” the Pakistani military spokesman said, stressing that “this is an action that lacks logic.”
Citing witnesses, the Reuters news agency reported that explosions were heard in the city of Amritsar.
Pakistan has closed its airspace following the missile launches from India, a spokesman for the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said.
The closure, which began at 3:15 a.m. local time (1:15 a.m. GMT), will apply to all civilian flights in the country until noon local time on Saturday.
India and Pakistan have been urged to exercise maximum restraint by the G7 countries, urging them to make efforts to immediately de-escalate the crisis, as the worst standoff between the nuclear-armed neighbours in decades has killed more than 50 civilians on both sides.
